St. Lawrence Square
The East Price Hill neighborhood needed a gathering place.
Some years ago, a building in their neighborhood burned down. It was located on a triangular shaped lot on the inner-corner of a bend in their main street. The odd shape and location of the site made it virtually impossible to develop a new building there. The community decided an infill park would be the highest and best use of the land. Jeff Raser helped a volunteer committee of community-minded people give form to their idea.
After several meetings with community representatives, Jeff – in collaboration with Human Nature Landscape Architects – created a park design that would provide a live performance venue as well as a monument in service to the armed services of the United States.
Working with a small construction budget, the design team created a flexible stage that can be used by musical performers and theatrical companies. The handicapped accessible stage can also be used for civic gatherings.
The monument wall has five fountain features – each under an emblem of our armed forces – along a monumental stone wall. The wall and fountain offer a contemplative environment for remembrance as well as a source of neighborhood pride.
