3415 Reading Road

Cincinnati, Ohio – Avondale neighborhood

Reading Road (US 42) is the main corridor of the Avondale neighborhood in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Along it, empty lots, vacant or underutilized structures and buildings in disrepair, portray the long-term disinvestment of the city’s largest African American community. Jeff Raser led a design team which was tasked with designing the first new building on Reading Road in over 20 years within very tight budget constraints.  

3415 Reading Road is an 18-unit multi-family residential building, part of the larger Avondale Revitalization project led by The Community Builders, Inc.  Architecturally, the building is designed to fit in with the neighborhood’s traditional context in terms of scale and massing (rhythms and proportions).  The building injects new life and vitality into the neighborhood. Its design is unapologetically meant to send a signal to the 25,000 daily travelers of Reading Road that a renaissance of Avondale is underway.
